This, to me, is the most controversial shot of the collection, and I went back and forth quite a bit about including it. Taken in the Plaza de Toros de la Real Maestranza de Caballería de Sevilla, Seville’s largest bullfighting ring, this shot brings to light the mesmerizing architecture of the space, modeled after the Roman Colosseum, with its beautiful, striking contrast of the yellow and red coloring, perfectly parallel vertical columns and horizontal seating, and flawless proportions. At the same time, this is a space where killing of innocent creatures has regularly served as entertainment for centuries. The contrast of the beauty and perfection of the space in its empty form with the cruelty of the energy it holds when full makes the shot that much more complex and thought-provoking.
